As a mother, pet parent, and artist who works with this medium, I understand there are many concerns regarding the safety and usage of products made with resin,

The Epoxy Resin I craft all my resin projects with is sourced from Resinate based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. They offer a premium, locally manufactured artistic resin, free of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds). Finished products have a hardness level of 81 out of 100, and are scratch resistant under normal use and care.

Although Resinate addresses food safety in their FAQs indicating their resins are safe for incidental contact with food, I still highly recommend placing a layer of waxed paper, parchment paper, or similar between the trays/coasters and any open food. It will help to ensure your safety, and prolong the life of the item as well.

Below I have listed a few of the most frequently asked questions regarding resin taken directly from the Resinate website. These and others, some relating to the actual crafting with their products, can be found on the Resinate FAQ page.

Are your (Resinate’s) resins toxic?
Our resin formulas are free of any VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) and have a low odor during usage.

Are your (Resinate’s) resins food safe?
Do not ingest any components of our Resins. However, once fully cured (after 72 hours), our resins are safe for incidental contact with food.

What is the heat resistance?
Dry heat +110º C (+230º F)
Spills +66º C (+150º F)
Immersion +66º C (+150º F)
Cold -40º C (-40º F)
Above temperature limits are laboratory test results.

Do your (Resinate’s) resins yellow or have UV resistance?
All of our resins are UV resistant and contain UV Inhibitors and HALS to help prevent yellowing overtime. However our regular Epoxy Resin & UltraCast Resin may still yellow over time with prolonged UV exposure.
